Product Description
The filter reactor (10-50 litres / optionally up to 250 litres) is a glass reactor with filtration capability which can be used for stirring, crystallising, homogenising, dissolving solids and separating solids. The glass apparatus is located in a solid stainless steel frame.
Integrated into the frame is a lift and swivel mechanism that allows the operator to separate, lower and swivel out the vessel and/or the filtration section. This significantly simplifies product discharge and/or cleaning of the nutsche. For example, the filter cake can be discharged using a plastic scoop after the column section has been lowered. Alternative discharge options for the solids are possible and can be discussed individually.
The nutsche reactor developed for chemical processes is mostly used where crystals and solids are formed during the chemical reaction and these need to be separated from the fluid after stirring and the completed coating process. The liquid can be sucked into a collecting vessel at full vacuum. The solids remain on the stable PTFE or ECTFE filter cloth [approx. 8 – 100 µm].
The lid and base plate are solid and available in various material combinations. The cover carries the double-acting, dry-running, explosion-proof agitator shaft seal and the other superstructures, such as valve technology, hand hole, safety device, temperature sensor, pressure gauge and, if required, feed vessels and distillation assembly.
The agitator shaft seal, which is a Buchi in-house development, has been further developed and optimised over decades. It provides a double-acting seal on the agitator shaft using precisely harmonised sealing technology. This protects people and products from interaction. A height adjustment of the shaft and agitator geometry is available as an option, allowing the solids to be slurried again after filtration with a washing solution, for example.
The explosion-proof agitator shaft seal is driven by a suitably customised explosion-proof drive. The standardised ATEX design of the Büchi agitators also makes it possible to work with solvents and to boil out and clean the reactor with ethanol, for example.
The speed can be variably adjusted via a handwheel or a frequency converter. Both the agitator shaft and the agitator geometries (armature, propeller, impeller, etc.) are available in different materials.
Joints between two glass components are usually connected using the Buchi-Flex connection system. This guarantees a uniquely tension-free and flexible structure, which can also be assembled by the hirer. The Buchi-Flex glass connection system is TA-Luft-compliant.
The components of the filter reactors that come into contact with the product, regardless of whether they come into contact with liquids or gases, are metal-free as standard. The main materials that come into contact with your product (chemicals) are glass, enamel, PTFE and PFA. This makes them suitable for use in the pharmaceutical and electronics (semiconductor) industries.

Options and Accessories
• Height-adjustable stirrer: Using a height-adjustable stirrer, the stirring geometry can be slowly lowered onto the filter cake, thereby gently breaking it up.
• Cleanroom version: The reactor can also be ordered as a cleanroom version. The specifications are always discussed individually with the customer on a project-by-project basis.
• Temperature-controlled filter base: Optionally, the filter base can also be designed to be temperature-controlled. The various designs are discussed with the customer on a case-by-case basis.
• Materials: In addition to glass and enamel, we also offer systems made from stainless steel, Hastelloy, titanium, tantalum and other special materials. Please feel free to contact us.
• Glass construction: Using standardised components, all process steps relevant to chemical laboratory environments can be carried out. For example, liquids/solids can be metered, solvents distilled off, substances boiled under reflux, and phases separated from the distillate.
• Coating: Glass components can be coated on the outside for various reasons. One argument in favour of coating is protection against breakage and splintering. The coating significantly improves the glass’s safety performance. A second argument in favour of an external glass coating could be enhanced explosion protection. For example, the standards body stipulates that systems declared by the operator as Zone Zero [the highest ATEX category] on the inside should have a conductive coating on the outside. Further details on the coating and the properties of the material ‘glass’ can be found here ….
• CIP nozzle: The CIP cleaning nozzle can, for example, be fitted to the cover plate via a quick-release coupling or a free-standing connection. The rotating head of the cleaning nozzle sprays the cleaning medium into the interior of the glass reactor at varying pressures. Ideally, two CIP cleaning nozzles can be fitted to the reactor head to minimise the spray shadow caused by the shaft and other internal components as much as possible.
• pH probe: Standard pH probes can be fitted into the MiniPilot via a pH probe holder that protects the sensitive pH probe. Explosion-proof models are also available.
• Insulation sleeves – are custom-made for individual glass components and protect the glass parts from cooling down too quickly or help maintain the temperature within the system.
• Measurement, control and regulation package: In addition to the standard measurement, control and regulation components, Buchi systems can be expanded with customised packages. This allows for simple visualisation of key parameters or even full automation, as required by the customer.
• Gas scrubber: With the help of the Buchi gas scrubber, the exhaust gases produced during the reaction can be purified.
• Specialities: Within the scope of technical feasibility, we are happy to manufacture a bespoke system that precisely meets your requirements. Please feel free to contact us…
