Determining the compressive strength of cement or dry mortar is complex. As the heat of hydration during setting and compressive strength correlate, the simple online measurement of the heat of hydration using isothermal heat flow calorimetry allows reliable statements to be made about the compressive strength. In addition, the influence of additives on hydration kinetics and strength development can be predicted and understood. This application note in English uses examples to show the possible uses of heat flow calorimetry in this area of application.
