The H2G1 portable hydrogen generator and the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) for generating hydrogen and using the RHE as a reference electrode.

Electrochemical reaction potentials are referenced to the potential of a standard hydrogen electrode; the portable hydrogen generator and the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) provide a user-friendly system for generating hydrogen in the reversible hydrogen electrode and then using it as a reference electrode.

Product Description

The Portable Hydrogen Generator H2G1 is used to generate hydrogen by electrolysis in the Reversible Hydrogen Electrode (RHE). The versatile and safe Reversible Hydrogen Electrode (RHE) can easily be used after generating hydrogen with the Reversible Hydrogen Electrode Kit RHEK. The potential of the Reversible Hydrogen Electrode is very accurate and stable and can therefore also be used to check the potential of other reference electrodes or as a replacement for a traditional Standard Hydrogen Electrode (SHE).

The Portable Hydrogen Generator H2G1 can be used to electrolyse the hydrogen, but also to quickly measure the voltage between the Reversible Hydrogen Electrode (RHE) and another reference electrode to be checked.

The ALS reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) works like a classic standard hydrogen electrode (NHE). Here, hydrogen gas is flushed in a solution around a platinum plate and under defined, constant conditions this half-cell is then the reference standard for all types of electrochemical measurements. All other classic reference electrodes are in turn referenced to this electrode with their potential.

However, as the construction and use of the NHE is very complex and the hydrogen supply and handling is associated with certain risks, the ALS RHE electrode can be used as an easy-to-handle and safe alternative.

To use the electrode, it is filled with acid using a disposable syringe. Using a potentiostat and a cell, the Portable Hydrogen Generator H2G1 or a potentiostat undergoes an approx. 4-minute amperometric electrolysis in which hydrogen is generated in the electrode. It then provides a very stable potential with a drift of 1 mV for up to 12 hours.

For use of the electrode in weakly acidic and neutral media, an electrolyte bridge (double junction chamber kit) is available, which is placed between the RHE and the measuring cell.
