Concave gratings – holographic or etched optical gratings / diffraction gratings
We offer a huge selection of etched and holographic concave diffraction gratings for your applicationConcave diffraction gratings diffract and focus light within a single component, offering advantages when used, for example, in monochromators or spectrometers. Holographic flat-field gratings image onto a single plane and are therefore primarily used, for example, in spectrometers with diode arrays or CCD detectors.
Product Description
Optical gratings or diffraction gratings are used as dispersive elements in various areas.
The advantage of concave diffraction gratings is that the radiation diffracted by the grating is focussed at the same time. Concave gratings are available from RGL both as holographic and scribed gratings.
If the grating structure is corrected during production (holographically) so that the foci of different wavelengths lie on one plane, these are referred to as flat-field gratings. This “image” can then be quickly and easily captured by a modern detector array. This type of grating is therefore very often used in modern spectrometers.
A basic distinction is made between scribed and holographic gratings.
The scribed gratings are divided mechanically, the grating grooves are characterised by a sharp, sawtooth-like geometry. The mechanical division is carried out using ground diamond gravers, whereby parallel grooves are scored into a metal surface – the highest precision is required here.
The holographic grids are produced lithographically, the grid grooves have a sinoidal geometry. Using two coherent partial beams of a laser, the desired interference pattern is created in a photoresist (on a substrate) with areas of stronger and weaker exposure. During subsequent development, one of the two areas is preferentially removed (depending on the type of developer), creating “mountains and valleys” in the surface.
