The Universal Battery Holder (UBH) allows a wide range of batteries to be connected to all available Gamry Instruments systems – from the Interface 1010 to the Reference 3000 (AE), including the Reference 30k Booster – using true 4-point Kelvin contacts, cycled up to 30A, and characterised in terms of their impedance.

Product Description

The universal battery holder allows the electrochemical characterisation of a variety of battery or cell types in the following list:

CR2016, CR1220, CR2025, CR2325, CR2430, CR2032, CR2450, 16340/CR123A

14500 Lithium AA as well as 18650, 26650, 20700 and 21700.

Many other battery or cell types are also compatible with the Universal Battery Holder if the diameter of the test specimen does not exceed 28 mm or the length does not fall below or exceed 1 mm to 84 mm.

The universal battery holder has an adjustable holder within the maximum length of 84 mm with an accuracy of one millimetre. Once the battery has been inserted, the adjustable holder only needs to be adjusted to the approximate length of the battery and the spring-loaded counter-contact ensures that the test object is secured between the measuring contacts.

Each of the two battery or cell contacts has two insulated contacts for independent recording of the current and measurement of the voltage. This ensures reproducible contacting and the avoidance of measurement errors due to contact resistance. The design of the current-carrying contacts and the underlying circuit board is designed for up to 30 A so that the Reference 3000 (AE) incl. Reference 30k booster can also be used with the universal battery holder.

The standard cell cable from Gamry Instruments with its 4 mm banana plugs has corresponding sockets on the universal battery holder as well as a double socket for connecting the Reference test lead. You can choose between the 2 mm pin or the 4 mm socket and insulate the 2 mm pin with a rubber cap when using the 4 mm socket.

The current-carrying test leads can either be configured on the universal battery holder using the standard Gamry Instruments cell cable with 4 mm banana plugs or, if required for higher currents up to 30 A, they can be fixed to the two 8 mm threaded glands using the power cable of the Reference 30K booster.

A 35 A automotive fuse provides protection in the event of accidental short circuits and protects the battery from a short circuit. However, low-capacity batteries cannot be protected against explosion or fire in the event of a short circuit with currents of less than 35 A.
