Thermal Properties
The basic instrument for the quick and easy measurement of thermal conductivity, temperature conductivity and heat capacity.

The compact TPS 500 measuring instrument offers an affordable entry point into thermal conductivity measurement. Even in its basic configuration, it allows for the simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity, thermal resistance and specific heat capacity (per unit volume).

Product Description

The Hot Disk TPS 500 determines the thermal conductivity, the thermal diffusivity and the heat capacity (volumetric) in one measurement, typical measuring times are 20 seconds. The device covers a measuring range from 0.03 to 100 W/mK.

The hot disc technique is also known as the “Transient Plane Source” (TPS) technique. The method works dynamically in a transient manner and is therefore very fast. The flat sensor serves as a heat source and temperature sensor at the same time. For standard measurements with the TPS 500, it is placed between two samples of identical material. The samples only need to have a flat surface, but may have rough or porous surfaces. The effort required for sample preparation is therefore minimal.
In addition to solid (bulk) materials, powders, granulates, pastes or viscous liquids can also be measured with the system.

In addition to the standard software, the TPS 500 also includes single-side technology – this enables measurements to be taken when only one sample piece is available.
