The compact all-rounder offering excellent value for money.

A versatile measuring instrument for small research laboratories, development departments and quality assurance. With a range of options and an operating temperature range up to 300°C, this instrument is a valuable tool for characterising a variety of materials.

Product Description

The Hot Disk TPS 500S determines the thermal conductivity, the thermal diffusivity and the heat capacity (volumetric) in one measurement, typical measuring times are 20 seconds. The device covers a measuring range from 0.03 to 100 W/mK.

The hot disc technique is also known as the “Transient Plane Source” (TPS) technique. The method works dynamically in a transient manner and is therefore very fast. The flat sensor serves as a heat source and temperature sensor at the same time. For standard measurements with the TPS 500S, it is placed between two samples of identical material. The samples only need to have a flat surface, but can certainly have rough or porous surfaces. The effort required for sample preparation is therefore minimal.

In addition to solid (bulk) materials, the system can also be used to measure powders, granulates, pastes or medium-viscosity liquids.

In addition to the standard software, the TPS 500S also includes single-side technology – this enables measurements to be taken when only one sample piece is available. The One-Dimensional technique enables measurements to be taken on rod-shaped samples, while the Slab technique, which is also included, is used to characterise highly conductive sheet metal. For use on sufficiently large samples, the TPS 500S thus becomes a versatile tool with many possibilities. If the samples to be measured are only available in very small dimensions, the TPS 2500S and TPS 3500 systems must be used.
