Thinky ARV-501 / PU-501
Thinky ARV-501 / PU-501
Mixing and degassing in a single step using vacuum-assisted technology on a pilot scaleThe ARV-501 is a vacuum mixer designed for pilot plants, with a gross mixing capacity of up to 700 g. Operation via the touch panel is very similar to that of the ARV-310P, and an RS232C interface for connecting to a PC is also provided. The maximum speed in mixing mode is 1,500 rpm, and 2,000 rpm in degassing mode.
The PU-501 pump base housing with an integrated rotary vane vacuum pump is included.
Product Description
The ARV-501 is a new intermediate size in Thinky’s portfolio of non-contact vacuum planetary centrifugal mixers. With a gross capacity of 700 g, it is ideal for applications where the ARV-310P is too small. The design is such that upscaling is possible with little effort. The cup holder is correspondingly larger to accommodate larger containers or syringes and has the same diameter as the ARE-500. The use of smaller containers is also possible without any problems.
In terms of technology, the ARV-501 is between the ARV-310P and ARV-930Twin. Like the ARV-310P, it uses a single cup holder with counterweight adjustment from 100 to 700 g, instead of the twin container holder of the ARV-930Twin. Nevertheless, it also offers the degassing mode of the larger model, which is particularly suitable for media with highly volatile substances for which a vacuum is not suitable. Thanks to the special transmission in degassing mode, with greatly reduced inherent rotation and increased centrifugal speed, it is possible to gently remove air by centrifugal force without significantly heating the medium through strong circulation. This mode is also recommended in the presence of low boilers, which would be removed by a vacuum. The vacuum can still be switched on in this operating mode if required. However, higher density differences within a mixture of substances can lead to separation – in this case the normal mixing mode is the method of choice. Operation is practically identical to the ARV-310P using the 4.3″ touch panel. The entire process is programme-controlled. You can save up to 20 mixing programmes consisting of up to 5 steps comprising speed, time and pressure.
In addition to the step number, mixing time and actual pressure, the actual speed is now also displayed in real time, unlike previous models.
Any error messages now also contain information on possible causes and instructions on how to rectify them. With the integrated RS-232C interface, it also has the option of either controlling the device completely using a PC or simply monitoring it (data logging). A corresponding mixing log can be saved automatically if required. The device also saves an alarm history. A software example and an interface description are included. The ARV-501 therefore fulfils the requirements for use in manufacturing companies with corresponding quality assurance.
The ARV-501 is similar to the ARE-500 in terms of housing design, but is usually mounted on the optional base frame in which the vacuum pump is housed. On the one hand, this results in an optimised operating height for the user and, on the other hand, the housing – as with all Thinky vacuum mixers – offers various other advantages:
– Avoidance of hot surfaces (vacuum pump) that the user could touch
– Quieter operating noise
– Clean integration in electronics and tubing
We install high-quality vacuum pumps based on the rotary vane principle from German brand manufacturers that have proven their robustness countless times in the field.
In order to remove gas bubbles below 10µm or at higher viscosities (e.g. with epoxy resins, silicones or other fast-curing adhesive systems), external vacuum chambers and a separate work step are conventionally used. A major advantage of the Thinky vacuum mixer is that the user can mix and degas in one step and in the same container. The continuous circulation of the sample also significantly increases the effectiveness of degassing. The difference is often only visible under the microscope – it’s worth taking a closer look!
Even media that tend to foam under vacuum can be processed without any problems, as this is effectively prevented by the centrifugal force.
